چکیده

Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the antimicrobial effects of photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT), an ordinary antiseptic (chlorhexidini digluconas), and an antibiotic therapy (bacitracinum zincicum and neomycini sulfas) in vitro. Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an area of great interest for its potential use as an antimicrobial therapy. It is currently a popular topic in modern medical literature. PDT is, according to recent publications, advantageous over other types of therapies because it acts nonspecifically and it is impossible to develop resistance to the therapy. Materials and Methods: We investigated the antibacterial effect of these three forms of antiseptics on the selection of G+, G-, aerobic, and anaerobic bacteria that exist in the oral cavity and are involved in the formation of periodontal diseases. Results & Conclusion: We found that the PACT device did not have a sufficient antimicrobial effect in vitro. In contrast, the disinfection agents containing chlorhexidini digluconas were effective and may be a safe, non-specific alternative to antibiotic treatments. Promising results from some clinical studies can have different mechanism of action as disinfection. © Versita Sp. z o.o.

Role of Photodynamic Therapy in the Treatment of Oral Cancer: A Review

Oral cancer is a major public health problem worldwide and is among the ten most common cancers. Despite the advances in research and treatment, oral cancer is still one of the major challenges in medical science. Common treatments for this cancer include surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, as well as adjuvant photodynamic therapy (PDT). The aim of this study was to evaluate oral cancer an...

کاربرد فتودینامیک تراپی در عفونتهای موضعی

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) was discovered over one hundred years ago by observing the killing of microorganisms when harmless dyes and visible light were combined in vitro. Since then it has primarily been developed as a treatment for cancer, ophthalmologic disorders and in dermatology. However in recent years interest in the antimicrobial effects of PDT has revived and it has been proposed as ...

Adhesion and Proliferation of Human Gingival Fibroblasts on Root Surfaces following Photodynamic Therapy: An In Vitro Study

Background and Aim: Previous studies have shown that some dyes used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) have a low pH and may cause root demineralization and remove the smear layer. This study aimed to assess and compare the effects of root biomodification with citric acid and PDT on the adhesion and proliferation of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs). Materials and Methods: In this in vitro experime...

Photodvnamic Therapy in Endodontics.

Commonly used irrigants do not always eradicate the entire microbial flora in infected root canals. Therefore, several other strategies, such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) have been developed. Photoactivated disinfection is based on the interaction of a photosensitive antibacterial agent and a light source. It uses a nontoxic dye named photosensitizer (PS) and low-intensity visible light. In ox...
